CONSISTENCY, OPPORTUNITY AT NC LEGISLATURE; NEW LEFT TAKES OVER WASHINGTON

There’s such a contrast in the Reform Majority’s plans for the NC General Assembly compared to what’s going on in Washington. Recent comments on those plans by NC Senate Leader Phil Berger exhibit a measured, optimistic approach that is reasonable and continues to build opportunity for North Carolina citizens looking for hope from the COVID crisis. With a drive to keep taxes low and reduced burdensome regulations, the leadership’s message is attractive to businesses looking at relocating to the state and provide jobs.

It seeks to provide a quality education for our children, with a special focus on early childhood reading initiatives. And there’s long-term wisdom in figuring out a sustainable way to meet our transportation needs to keep our citizens safe and provide reliable routes for commerce and North Carolina goods and services.

The contrast of that approach to the actions and plans being put in place in Washington is staggering.  New President Biden with the stroke of a pen signed an executive order revoking the permit for the Keystone pipeline, halting its construction in the U.S. – which will mean lay-offs for more than a thousand workers. He ended the ban on travel from Muslim countries – Executive Order 13769: Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States. Biden halted construction on the border wall with Mexico. He signed a letter to re-enter the U.S. in the Paris climate accords. And he reversed rollbacks on vehicle emissions standards – returning us back to Obama-days rules that increased the price of vehicles.

That’s just President Biden’s first instinct actions.

The leftists in Congress are clamoring to do away with the U.S. Senate filibuster, to pack and change the nature of the U.S. Supreme Court, create a new health care push – basically Obamacare II, they want to push new immigration reform, and down the road it looks like they’ll once again push for statehood for Washington, D.C. That’s just the stuff they’re touting publicly.

Behind the scenes, with all the Obama lieutenants Biden has called back into action, we can expect the environmental police to be back in place, cuts in military spending, and engagement in foreign policy that puts America back in harm’s way – where it was at the end of 2016 – with ISIS running rampant, terrorist attacks threatening the Western world, and the North Korean despot ready to lob nukes at America.

Little of what is going on in D.C. will provide more opportunity, more freedom or more safety for Americans. The “unity” talk quickly became just more darkness from the Left, with threats of “deprogramming” conservatives, more cancel culture rhetoric, and actions that threaten American business.

Corporate America will be under attack like never before with emboldened socialists influencing Congress. Which means jobs will be in jeopardy – hurting the little man on Main Street USA. It’s amazing how climate change and pleasing the international intelligentsia community appears to be more important to the new political bosses in D.C. than helping the average folks in small town and rural America who are struggling to get past the ravages of COVID and the shutdowns that have choked America’s economy.

But there’s hope. The next two years could be tough for freedom lovers. But then comes the 2022 elections. And if the liberals accomplish even half of what they hope for, history would say they will be overrun at the ballot box in that election. As Frank Hill at North State has pointed out, “the first congressional mid-term for any new president is usually poison for his party. LBJ lost 47 Democrats in ’66; Reagan lost 26 GOP members in 1982; Clinton lost 54 Ds in ’94; Obama lost 63 Democrats in 2010, and Trump lost 40 Republicans in 2018. Other mid-term losses included FDR losing 72 Democrats in Congress in 1938 and Eisenhower losing 48 Republicans in ’58.”

So if you’re upset about what’s going on in Washington, wipe away the tears and chin up.

And be hopeful for the good news from the Reform Majority in the North Carolina General Assembly and give them your support!
