They say the horror writer Edgar Allan Poe did his best work under the influence of drugs and booze. Ned Barnett isn’t in Poe’s league as a writer, but the News and Observer editorial page Editor was arrested on Hillsborough Street right before Halloween morning driving 57 miles an hour in a 35 zone, drunk as a skunk, testing 50% above the legal limit.
Here is Ned’s mugshot.
Perhaps before hitting the bottle for his midnight ride, Mr. Barnett penned his Sunday column lamenting the plight of Al Qaeda terrorists in American hands by recounting a conversation with a CIA turncoat who told Ned of how they are just misunderstood youths. Ned explains “They were boys uprooted from their home countries after accepting a few hundred dollars to “make jihad.” In captivity, some cried for their mothers.”
